Alvina Eastmond
Education lawyer
Parents come to me when the school has said no, or has stopped answering.
I started out in a public school classroom, and I still read a school’s paperwork the way a teacher does: what does this mean on a Tuesday morning, for this child?
I work with one family at a time. I don’t represent school districts, so I never have a reason to soften what I tell you.
What I take
- IEPs and special education
- School discipline
- 504 plans

What a first meeting is like
We sit at a table, not across a desk. You tell me what happened, in whatever order it comes out. I take notes and ask what your child would say.
Then I tell you what I think the papers mean, what the school is required to do, and what the options are, including doing nothing for now. You leave with a short list of next steps, in writing.
I don’t handle custody, college admissions or personal injury. If your question is one of those, I’ll tell you so on the first call and point you to someone who does.
Not sure I’m the right lawyer?
Write a few lines about what’s going on. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll say so.
